Award winning editorial artist Dennis Balogh to
open show at Laurel Lake Gallery in July
June 9, 2008 -- A collection of the works of acclaimed editorial artist Dennis Balogh will be on display at The Gallery of Laurel Lake, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson from July 1-31, 2008. Admission is free and open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Dennis majored in illustration at the Cooper School of Art in Cleveland. He found a home for his editorial illustration style in the newspaper industry working for the Cleveland Press, Columbus Dispatch and Akron Beacon Journal. Over the last twenty years, his award winning illustrations have graced the pages of the Akron Beacon Journal, and he has also won national and international acclaim for art directing Sunday magazines in Columbus and Akron.
With his portfolio of work receiving considerable outside attention,in 2006 Dennis began a new career in freelance illustration. Today his client list includes Kiplinger Financial, New York Stock Exchange Magazine, Ohio Magazine, Medical Economics Magazine, RN Magazine, Nursing Magazine, Harvard University and E. & J. Gallo Winery.
Dennis makes watercolor portraits and figures come alive by paying close attention to detail while keeping a loose rhythm of line and brush strokes. He feels that the right use of color is the strongest contributing factor for a successful painting.
The artist has received many Awards of Excellence in Print Magazine's Regional Design Annual, and has been recognized by New York Society of Illustrators Annual, The Society of Newspaper Design Annual and The Creativity Annual. He is a two time Gold Medal winner for illustration in The Creativity Annual. He received 2002 Best in Ohio illustration portfolio from the Cleveland Press Club, and has many times been the Best in Ohio single illustration winner in both the Associated Press and Cleveland Press Club competitions.
The Gallery at Laurel Lake offers free exhibit space to professional and amateur local artists and photographers every month, as a public service to support the arts in Northeast Ohio.
