For a doggone good time, Laurel Lake sponsors
2008 "Bark in the Park" for people and pets

March 18, 2008 – Laurel Lake Retirement Community is proud to be a Shelter Angel sponsor for the Humane Society of Greater Akron’s Fourth Annual Bark in the Park, a "fun for the whole family" event to be held Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Goodyear Metro Park.

Bark in the Park includes a 1-mile Pledge Walk for pets and people at 11 a.m., as well as a Pet Expo featuring agility demonstrations, entertainment, adoption areas, prizes, fun pet contests, food, seminars and more.  Over 1,000 people and pets attended the 2007 event.

The event raises money to help homeless animals enjoy a better life. Proceeds will be used to aid animals that are victims of cruelty, neglect, illness or injury, and to provide adoption services, education and community outreach programs.

"As a pet-friendly community, Laurel Lake appreciates the wellness and therapeutic benefits that companion animals bring to the lives of people," said David Oster, executive director of the 150-acre active retirement campus in Hudson, Ohio.

"We support the ethical treatment of animals in the greater community, and the promotion of responsible pet ownership and adoption efforts."

Resident pets (dogs, cats, fish, birds and other species) are welcome additions to community life at Laurel Lake. The campus sponsors occasional pet shows, provides acres of parkland and walking paths along which dogs and their owners can go exploring, hosts an annual Blessing of the Animals, and incorporates therapeutic pet visits as an important part of its wellness philosophy.
