with Laurel Lake's Fair Trade Boutique, on October 5

September 25, 2007 Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson, Ohio will host its 2nd Annual Fair Trade Boutique on Friday, October 5, 12:30 to 4:30 PM in the Community Room at 200 Laurel Lake Drive. A wide variety of ecologically-friendly, fairly traded jewelry, artwork, home décor, and other handmade items from artisans and farmers living in developing countries will be available for purchase.

Fair trade is an international movement to build trading relationships built on respect and to alleviate poverty. Laurel Lake has invited six regional organizations representing hundreds of artisan groups in more that 30 countries throughout Africa, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. Each partner group is helping artisans and farmers gain access to markets and maintain steady work at a fair wage to provide for their families, leading to a better quality of life. This year’s partner groups include Ecokiss, Heartbeats, the Interfaith Council for Peace in the Middle East, International Partners in Mission, the InterReligious Task Force on Central America, and Ten Thousand Villages.

Laurel Lake Retirement Community offers a remarkable lifestyle for discerning adults who want to continue leading full, active lives filled with a variety of interests and aspirations, such as volunteering, working, traveling, wellness, cultural and lifelong learning pursuits.
