New 3-Hole Golf Practice Course takes shape at Laurel Lake

July 7, 2008 -- Residents of Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson are eager to try out the new, private 3-hole golf practice course recently developed within the 150 acre community.

The new practice course offers holes ranging from 40 to 90 yards, according to David Oster, Executive Director of Laurel Lake.

"This is a fun course in a beautiful setting for residents and their families to enjoy," Oster said. "It's a place where novices can learn the game without feeling intimidated, as they might on a regular course."

The new amenity is located along the shores of Rider Lake, one of three bodies of water within the campus, and is ideal for beginners learning the sport and for more experienced players to practice their fundamentals. The professionally landscaped synthetic course was constructed by Southwest Greens of Hilliard, Ohio which donated part of its installation cost to benefit senior wellness.  The new course includes a practice tee, rough and putting green, as well as a sand bunker. Two more practice greens on the opposite side of Rider Lake allow for water shots.

A task force of residents and staff spearheaded the development of the new campus amenity. The course was designed for use by independently living residents for practice, golf clinics, tournaments and family recreation, and as therapeutic programming for assisted living and skilled nursing residents who wish to continue their love of the sport.

The project was funded by a $10,000 lead-off grant from the Laurel Lake Foundation, and by $40,000 in additional contributions and matching donations.
