Laurel Lake "Keys to a Sharp Mind" classes draw record crowds
January 31, 2008 -- Laurel Lake’s Keys to a Sharp Mind educational programs are attracting record numbers of students, both from Laurel Lake and surrounding communities in Northeast Ohio. The January "Art & Architecture" series, taught by Canton Museum of Art executive director Manuel J. Albacete, averaged 150 students per session and was simulcast via live video to the community's Pub and Mixing Place to accommodate overflow enrollment.
Topics included:
- Introduction to Principles of Architectural Engineering – January 10th. Learn how architects and engineers use math, science, technology and design in an engineering problem solving process to benefit people. This course combines lecture and Q&A with hands-on model assembly by volunteers.

- The Tomb of Tutankhamun – January 24th. In 1922, Howard Carter made archaeological history by discovering the first Egyptian pharaonic tomb still containing most of its treasures, and something else never seen in modern history - the pristine mummy of an Egyptian king. Marvel at King Tut’s tomb and learn more about this fascinating period in New Kingdom Egyptian history.
- The Sistine Frescoes of Michelangelo: Restoration and Controversy – January 31st.
