Laurel Lake summer school continues with classes on
music masterworks, best sellers, sports science and more

June 9, 2008 -- Laurel Lake’s Keys to a Sharp Mind lifelong learning series continues throughout the summer with classes focusing on music masterworks, best selling literature, memory enhancement and sports science. These programs are free and open to the public, and will be held at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson. Registration is required and seating is limited; please call 330-650-2100 to pre-register.

Keys to a Sharp Mind is a Laurel Lake educational pilot project funded by the Reinberger Foundation, studying the benefits of cognitive fitness training in older adults through the use of intellectually, socially stimulating programs.

"MUSIC MASTERWORKS" with Manuel J. Albacete, Executive Director of the Canton Museum of Art:

· Two Great Operas: Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci – June 26 at 1:00 PM.

· Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique – July 17 at 1:00 PM.

· Puccini’s Tosca – July 24 at 1:00 PM.

"BEST SELLERS: Great Books for Reading Aloud and Discussion" with instructor Frances Ritsky-Kluter. These programs are especially suited for individuals with vision challenges.

· "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" by Lisa See – June 20 at 1:00 PM.

· "The Year of Magical Thinking" by Joan Didion – July 11 at 1:00 PM.

"HEALTH TODAY" courses with Paula Hartman-Stein, Ph.D., Founder of the Center for Healthy Aging:

· Memory Booster WorkshopsJune 13 & 20 at 1:00 PM. Memory, attention and focusing skills are key to long-term learning. Learn how to strengthen and apply the different types of memory.

"EXERCISE STRATEGIES FOR EVERYONE OVER 50" July 18 @ 1:00 PM.
A practical and realistic guide to fitness after age 50. Learn about the most current recommendations from the American College of Sports Medicine regarding physical activity for the over 50 crowd, and maximize the potential benefits of your exercise regime.
