Love to sing?  Laurel Lake Chorale is now enrolling
singers for the 2008-2009 season

July 15, 2008 -- Whether you’re an experienced singer, an enthusiastic amateur, or have never sung outside the shower, YOU are invited to join other music lovers for a light-hearted and fun weekly rehearsal of seasonal and holiday music with the Laurel Lake Chorale.

The Laurel Lake Chorale is enrolling new singers for the 2008-2009 season. Designed for adults 55 years and above, the Chorale performs three and four-part choral arrangements in a wide variety of musical styles ranging from classical to jazz. Participation is free and open to the public – no auditions required.

The Chorale occasionally sings for Laurel Lake’s Sunday Vespers series, performs two major concerts – Holiday and Spring – and makes guest appearances in the community upon request.

Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays at 3:00 PM at Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson. The first rehearsal of the new season is September 9, 2008. Singers who would like to join should call director Donna Anderson at 330-655-1436 or email (info@laurellake.org) so that a music folder can be prepared for you.

Participation in group singing has many wellness benefits for older adults. Recent studies have shown that regular, extended singing deepens abdominal breathing and heart rate, and improves posture. It alters brain wave patterns, strengthens the immune system and releases endorphins, the body's pleasure hormones, into the brain and body. It increases concentration, memory, visual and listening skills, spatial orientation and physical coordination. It promotes relaxation, socialization and a deeper sense of personal and spiritual connection.

Laurel Lake is the smart option for discerning older adults who wish to continue leading full, active lives filled with a variety of interests and aspirations, such as volunteering, working, traveling, wellness, cultural and lifelong learning pursuits.
