Leading expert on
macular degeneration from

– On Thursday, July 31 at 2:00 p.m., Laurel Lake Retirement Community will welcome Krzysztof Palczewski, Ph.D., one of the world’s foremost authorities on the treatment of macular degeneration and other eye diseases.In his presentation entitled "Forever Vision," Dr. Palczewski will review the latest advances in the prevention and treatment of macular degeneration, and answer questions posed by the audience. This program is free and open to the public.
A leading scientist in ophthalmology and pharmacology, Dr. Palczewski is the John H. Hord Professor and Chair of Pharmacology at the School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. His research interests include phototransduction enzymes, retinoids in vision and structural studies of G protein-coupled receptors. In recent years, a team led by Dr. Palczewski received national attention when it took the first steps in treating an eye disease causing irreversible congenital blindness in millions of people worldwide by successfully testing two new treatments in mice.
Honors and professorships awarded to Dr. Palczewski include: The Cogan Award, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (1996); Jules and Doris Stern Research to Prevent Blindness Professor (1992-99); the Humboldt Research Award for Senior U. S. Scientists (2000); Trustee Award, The Foundation Fighting Blindness (2000); the Alcon Research Institute Award for the Year (2001); and Senior Scientific Investigator, Research to Prevent Blindness (2001 to present).
