Chorale to sing Rodgers & Hammerstein, William Tell Overture, music
of Ireland and Scotland this Spring This large, enthusiastic group of singers age 55 and older meets weekly at Laurel Lake to explore their voices and learn challenging and fun choral repertoire under the direction of Donna Anderson. The chorus sings four-part choral arrangements in a variety of musical styles, performing two major concerts each year. This spring's repertoire includes a rousing salute to "Rodgers and Hammerstein on Broadway"; a hilarious arrangement of Rossini’s "William Tell Overture" imitating the sounds of orchestral percussion, brasses, and woodwinds; the music of Ireland and Scotland, with "Oh Danny Boy" and lush choral settings of the poetry of Robert Burns; and much more. No audition is necessary for membership in this 50-voice chorus, and participation is free and open to the public. The Chorale offers a comfortable situation for singers of all levels of ability to enjoy singing while developing their musical skills and knowledge. Choir members may sit or stand for performances. Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays at 3 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson. The first rehearsal of the new season is January 11, but singers may join any time. For more information or to reserve a music folder, please call Donna Anderson at 330-655-1436 or email info@laurellake.org.
