Landscape artist Jan Fribourg
to open exhibit at Laurel Lake Gallery in July

June 24, 2010 -- The Gallery at Laurel Lake will host an exhibition of works by landscape artist Jan Fribourg during the month of July. The Gallery, located at 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Jan Fribourg’s works may be described as "dreamscapes," deeply personal and brightly colored landscapes and seascapes that suggest optimism and serenity. Fribourg and her husband loved sailing. It was this love of the sea that led to Fribourg's becoming a painter. When she was 55, she and her husband sold their home and most of their possessions to move aboard their sailboat, Passages. They sailed across the Atlantic and lived a nomadic lifestyle for the next 8 years on the Mediterranean, spending a year or so in each country bordering the North coast. During winters they rented houses, met many local artists and toured the galleries and museums.

The beauty of the region inspired Fribourg to try her hand at painting landscapes and seascapes. She started tentatively with small canvases and fast-drying acrylics, both practical by-products of living on a boat where storage and space are at a premium.. Upon returning to the United States, she continued to paint, studying and developing her artistic voice through the years.

The Gallery at Laurel Lake offers free exhibit space to local artists and photographers each month as a public service to support the arts in Northeast Ohio.
