Sounds of the Season: Chorale concert features handbells, Native American flute

November 12, 2010 -- The 50-member Laurel Lake Encore Chorale will present its annual “Sounds of the Season” Holiday Concert at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20 in the Community Room of Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson.

The concert will include guest performances by EnsemBelle Handbell Quartet with Native American flute music performed by Dean Wagner.

The Chorale will perform music in a wide variety of musical styles, from a medley of tradition angel carols to contemplative Native American songs to the jazzy "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!"

Audience members are invited to join the performers for light refreshments following the concert, which is free and open to the public. For more information, please call Donna Anderson at 330-655-1436.

The Laurel Lake Encore Chorale under the direction of Donna Anderson rehearses weekly and performs several concerts each year. The Chorale was the first national affiliate of Encore Creativity for Older Adults (www.encorecreativity.org), established in 2007 to provide an excellent artistic environment for older adults 55 and over, regardless of experience or ability, who seek performance opportunities under a professional artist. Today, Encore choral and dance programs are offered at multiple locations in the Washington D.C./Baltimore area, including a chorale at the Smithsonian Institution. Encore’s combined chorales (500 singers) have performed concerts at The Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian’s American Art Museum, and the White House Conference on Aging. Each year, Encore conducts summer "sleepaway" choral camps for older adults at the famed Chautauqua Institution, New York, and at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Encore also hosts Singing at Sea cruises.
