CONTACT Laurel Lake, Hudson Ministerial Association to host National Day of Prayer Breakfast May 5 March
25, 2011 --
Laurel
Lake Retirement Community and the Hudson Ministerial Association will
host a community prayer breakfast to celebrate the 60th
Annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 5. “Laurel
Lake is pleased to host this event together with the Hudson Ministerial
Association to promote prayer in our community,” said Mary Tatman,
Chaplain and Spiritual Care Coordinator for the retirement community.
“As a faith-based community, we believe that it is important to
recognize the power of prayer on this day and every day.” Those
gathered will pray for the city, county, state and nation. Mayor William
Currin will speak on behalf of the City of Hudson. Deacon Forrest Norman
of Hudson Presbyterian Church is among several clergy who will lead the
assembly in prayer. The
Laurel Lake Encore Chorale is expected to sing. A Color Guard will
present the colors. The
day's theme is taken from the hymn, "A Mighty Fortress Is Our
God." The National Day of Prayer is marking its 60th annual
observance. A joint resolution by Congress signed by President Harry S. Truman in 1952 declared an annual national day of prayer. The law was amended by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to establish the date as the first Thursday of May. Laurel Lake Retirement Community is the smart choice for discerning adults who wish to continue leading active lives filled with a variety of interests, including work, volunteering, travel, fitness, cultural and lifelong learning pursuits.
